Coinbase's Base layer-2 network launches a $100K accelerator focused on AI agents, payments, and trading startups.

Coinbase's Base layer-2 network is launching an eight-week accelerator program that will invest $100,000 in each of 10 selected startups, with applications open through September 9 and a Demo Day scheduled for November in New York. The initiative targets pre-seed teams building AI agents, trading, payments, and financing products, including those leveraging stablecoins for agent-driven transactions and decentralized infrastructure.
The shift reflects a strategic narrowing of Base's cohort model toward deeper, more focused support. Daniel Bronheim, Base Ecosystem Fund Lead, stated that the program aims to work intensively with "high-signal teams" rather than broad groups, offering hands-on mentorship and ecosystem integration. Selected companies will receive a dedicated advisor, weekly support, visibility-building assistance, and investor access at Demo Day. Base requires participating startups to designate the network as their primary blockchain, though they may support multiple chains.
The accelerator announcement aligns with Coinbase's broader push into agent infrastructure; the company previously launched Agentic Wallets on Base in February—enabling AI agents to hold USDC and make payments—and Coinbase for Agents in June. The specific composition of the cohort and which founders with fintech backgrounds ultimately apply remain to be seen.
