Jack Dorsey announced the release of Buzz, an open-source workspace that unifies people, agents, conversations, and code within a single cryptographic identity system. Built to reduce reliance on fragmented tools like Slack and GitHub, Buzz addresses a core operational problem: information loss at the seams between disparate platforms. According to Dorsey's announcement, teams currently scatter work across chat tools, code hosts, CI systems, and agent platforms, limiting what agents can access and therefore accomplish.
The system stores all activity—messages, code patches, reviews, workflows, and approvals—as signed events on a self-hosted relay. Both people and agents receive cryptographic identities with their own keys, channels, and audit trails, making agents equal team members capable of searching history, opening repositories, sending patches, reviewing code, and running workflows. Buzz is built on Nostr, remains model-agnostic, and operates under the Apache 2.0 license. Core features including channels, threads, direct messages, canvases, search, audit logs, and a desktop application are currently functional, while full git hosting, mobile support, push notifications, and approval gates remain under development.
The workspace's long-term vision centers on federation between relays to achieve full decentralization, tighter permission scoping for agents in mixed-privacy environments, hosted options for teams avoiding self-infrastructure, and an ecosystem of workflows and agents built on the open specification. Dorsey indicated that Block will serve as an initial deployment ground for testing Buzz's utility, with potential for agents to handle transactions as a next frontier.
