Block, the payments company led by Jack Dorsey, unveiled Buzz on Tuesday, a free, open-source workspace platform built on the Nostr protocol. The platform integrates team messaging, code repositories, and automation tools in a single interface designed to reduce organizational reliance on proprietary services like Slack and GitHub. Each participant—whether human or AI agent—receives its own cryptographic identity and defined permissions, enabling agents to post, review code, approve workflows, and participate in conversations alongside team members.
Buzz operates as model-agnostic software, compatible with agents powered by Claude Code, Codex, and Block's own goose framework. The platform uses Nostr's keypair system to address what Block describes as a core challenge in multi-agent environments: ensuring that an agent's identity, history, and reputation remain portable across Nostr-compatible systems. Every interaction—messages, reactions, approvals, and git events—is recorded as a signed entry in a hash-chain audit log, whether authored by a person or automated process.
The initial release ships as version 0.4.21 with desktop clients for macOS, Windows, and Linux, though mobile versions remain incomplete. Teams can either self-host using the Apache 2.0 licensed codebase or use Block's managed offering. Despite framing the system as decentralized, each workspace currently operates on a single relay serving as its authoritative record.
