MoonPay launches MoonAgents, AI-powered Telegram bots for market analysis and self-custodied crypto transactions.

MoonPay launched MoonAgents on Telegram on Thursday, enabling users to interact with its AI crypto assistant through the messaging platform. The integration allows users to analyze markets, prepare transactions, and monitor blockchain activity in natural conversation, while maintaining control of their private keys and data on their own computers. According to MoonPay Agents Product Lead Kevin Arifin, the Telegram integration extends the company's desktop app by providing access to the AI assistant away from a computer.
Users set up a custom bot through Telegram's BotFather tool and connect it to the MoonAgents desktop app to begin interacting with the agent. MoonPay selected Telegram partly for its popularity among crypto users, but primarily because the platform offers a streamlined interface for bot creation compared to alternatives like WhatsApp or iMessage. The design follows similar projects like OpenClaw and Hermes Agent, which demonstrated how AI assistants can operate outside traditional chatbot formats.
The architecture preserves user independence from Telegram itself—all conversations and agent data persist locally on the desktop app, meaning the service would remain functional even if the messaging platform became unavailable. This launch reflects a broader trend of crypto infrastructure enabling AI agents to interact with digital assets, following Gemini's April release of Agentic Trading and Coinbase's June launch of Coinbase for Agents.
