x402 revives the long-dormant HTTP 402 status code to allow AI agents and software systems to settle stablecoin transfers—primarily USDC—directly within standard web requests across chains including Base, Solana, and BNB Chain. The protocol eliminates traditional friction points like API keys and checkout flows, creating a native payment mechanism suited to machine-to-machine commerce and autonomous agent operations.
