Aero, a merger of Aerodrome and Velodrome, launches October 21 across 7 networks with staking rewards tied to protocol revenue.
DeFi & Yields ·
Aero, a unified decentralized exchange formed from the merger of Aerodrome and Velodrome, is launching on October 21 across seven networks. The protocol introduces a token economy in which staked AERO holders earn a claim on all exchange revenue. Rewards are structured with caps tied to pool revenue and supplemented by buyback mechanisms designed to limit token dilution over time.
The exchange model combines three operational pillars: capturing trading flow through programmable fee rebates and dynamic fee structures that respond to market conditions; increasing the value of that flow via upgraded fees and MEV tax mechanisms; and optimizing the token economy through predictive allocation and gauge caps that prevent overallocation. Liquidity providers can earn in two modes—fee-earning positions that retain smart fees directly, or staked positions that earn AERO rewards multiplied at 1.2x the revenue value. A new "REV Engine" is described as introducing revenue streams independent of new token issuance.
What remains unclear is the actual governance structure, the timeline and mechanics of buyback execution, how predictive allocation will perform in practice across disparate networks, and whether the seven-network expansion will effectively consolidate liquidity or fragment it across chains. The sustainability of the 1.2x multiplier for staked rewards and the real-world impact of gauge caps on protocol competitiveness also remain untested.
