Arbitrum joins Paxos-led Global Dollar consortium to participate in digital dollar ecosystem development.

Arbitrum has joined the Global Dollar Network, a Paxos-led stablecoin consortium, as USDG launches on the Ethereum layer-2 with integrations across trading, lending, and payments platforms including Morpho, GMX, Fluid, and Maple. The arrangement grants Arbitrum a share of the reserve income generated by USDG activity on its network—a departure from the current stablecoin landscape where the network operator captures no direct economics from the roughly $3.8 billion in stablecoins already circulating on Arbitrum, about 60% of which is Circle's USDC.
The Global Dollar Network's model distributes rewards from USDG reserves among consortium partners that drive adoption rather than concentrating economics with the issuer alone. USDG, issued by Paxos and backed one-for-one by dollar reserves, has over $3 billion in circulation across networks and more than 150 partners including Robinhood, Kraken, and Mastercard. A governance proposal published this week asks ArbitrumDAO to prioritize USDG growth, allocate 100 million ARB to its DRIP incentive program, and deploy treasury assets to support liquidity.
The move reflects intensifying competition among stablecoin alliances vying for digital dollar distribution. Competing consortiums include OpenUSD, backed by Mastercard, Visa, Stripe, Coinbase, and Shopify, and Qivalis, supported by 37 European banks. Whether Arbitrum's participation and incentive commitment will meaningfully shift stablecoin distribution or reserve economics on the network remains unclear.
