Spot decentralized exchange volume expanded roughly 13% in the third quarter of 2026 to reach $571 billion, according to ARK's Q3 2026 report. The growth was anchored by a surge in tokenized-stock trading, which climbed approximately 9-fold quarter-over-quarter to approximately $50 billion, establishing real-world assets as a material driver of on-chain trading volume.
Perpetual derivatives exchanges showed divergent momentum in the same period. Open interest in perp DEX markets expanded roughly 76% to $24 billion, though quarterly trading volume declined about 16%. Hyperliquid maintained a dominant position, accounting for approximately 53% of total perp open interest across the ecosystem.
The expansion of tokenized-equity trading suggests institutional and retail participants are increasingly using blockchain infrastructure for traditional asset exposure. Whether this trajectory sustains or faces regulatory headwinds remains uncertain, as does the degree to which tokenized stocks will continue to outpace other on-chain asset classes in coming quarters.
