Curve Finance now allows LP tokens to be used as collateral while maintaining CRV emissions and fee accrual.
DeFi & Yields ·
Curve Finance has introduced a mechanism allowing liquidity provider tokens to function as collateral in lending protocols while continuing to accrue both CRV token emissions and trading fee rewards. This update addresses a longstanding friction in DeFi composability, where assets locked as collateral typically forfeit yield streams. The modification maintains the dual income structure for LPs—the base trading fees from swaps and the gauge-weighted CRV distribution that flows through Curve's vote-escrowed governance system.
The mechanics preserve Curve's existing incentive architecture. LPs deposit into pools, receive LP tokens representing their share, and can now pledge those tokens to external lending platforms without interrupting either fee accrual or their eligibility for emissions tied to gauge voting outcomes. This expands the utility of Curve's LP tokens without altering the underlying token economics or the veCRV locking and boost mechanisms that govern reward distribution.
What remains unclear is the scope of integration—which lending protocols will initially support LP tokens as collateral, what haircuts or risk parameters will apply, and whether the update will apply uniformly across Curve's pool ecosystem or only to select pools. The long-term impact on capital efficiency and LP behavior in Curve's liquidity pools depends partly on adoption rates across DeFi's lending layer.
