JPMorgan brings deposit token to Ethereum for institutional clients
DeFi & Yields ·
The bank is extending JPM Coin beyond Base so large clients can move dollar balances on a second major blockchain network.
JPMorgan has confirmed plans to make its JPM Coin deposit token available to institutional clients on Ethereum, according to reporting cited by Bloomberg. The token functions as a digital claim on dollar deposits held at the bank, and the Ethereum rollout follows its initial debut on Base last year, as detailed by wublockchain.xyz.
The move is designed to let clients move dollars around the clock, with transfers settling within seconds rather than through traditional banking hours. That speed matters for institutions operating in crypto markets, where counterparties often need to post or release funds outside standard settlement windows.
Beyond simple payments, the expanded deposit token is positioned to serve as a settlement and collateral tool for tokenized asset transactions, giving financial institutions a dollar-denominated instrument that can move on the same rails as the assets it backs. The Block reported the addition of Ethereum mainnet support alongside the bank's existing presence on Base.
Multiple outlets tracking the rollout describe overlapping capabilities, including peer-to-peer transfers between institutional clients across EVM-compatible networks and instantaneous movement of dollar balances once the token is live on Ethereum mainnet. Four distinct sources have now covered the expansion, pointing to consistent details about scope even as specific feature descriptions vary slightly between reports.
Not yet detailed is a precise launch date for Ethereum availability, which institutional clients will have initial access, or how the deposit token will interact with other tokenized collateral systems already operating on the network. How quickly large crypto-sector clients adopt the Ethereum version alongside the existing Base deployment remains to be seen.
