Kalshi adds BNB perpetual futures for US traders
DeFi & Yields ·
The CFTC-regulated exchange has begun offering perpetual contracts tied to BNB, extending its crypto derivatives push to a major exchange token and coinciding with a sharp price move.
Kalshi, a designated contract market overseen by the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission, launched BNB perpetual futures contracts, opening the product to traders inside the United States. The move follows Kalshi's broader expansion beyond its original event-contract business into perpetual futures tied initially to crypto assets, a shift that has accompanied the platform's rapid growth in US event-contract volume.
The launch coincided with a notable move in BNB's price. BNB surged 6% to $770, a level described as a seven-month high, with the rally attributed to both the Kalshi contract launch and what was characterized as strong growth in tokenized equities trading on BNB Chain, according to cryptopotato.com.
The mechanics of the launch place BNB alongside other crypto assets Kalshi has been building perpetual futures products around, a category the exchange has treated as a growth area distinct from its sports, election, and macro event contracts. Because Kalshi operates as a federally regulated derivatives exchange rather than an offshore or crypto-native venue, the contracts carry the same regulatory scaffolding — including KYC checks and CFTC oversight — that applies to its other listed products, differentiating the offering from perpetuals available on unregulated platforms.
The launch arrives amid wider scrutiny of the prediction-market and crypto-perpetuals space. Kalshi, along with Polymarket and Hyperliquid, has faced bipartisan House scrutiny as the CFTC signals incoming rules for the sector, and the company's chief executive, Tarek Mansour, has said prediction markets are expanding beyond sports into politics, finance, crypto, and culture as some of the fastest-growing categories. Kalshi has also been expanding on other fronts, including a partnership to integrate sponsored prediction-market odds with Fox News and moves to add parental controls and AI-based checks aimed at preventing underage use.
What remains unclear is how much of BNB's price move was directly driven by the Kalshi listing versus the cited growth in tokenized equities trading on BNB Chain, since the two developments were reported together without a breakdown of their individual contribution. Also unresolved is how Kalshi's BNB perpetuals will be treated under the incoming CFTC rules for prediction markets and crypto derivatives that lawmakers are currently examining, and whether additional crypto assets will follow BNB onto the platform's perpetuals lineup.
