Kansai Electric's MOACT enables 1:1 swap of NORM Points for yen-backed JPYC stablecoin on Polygon.
DeFi & Yields ·
Kansai Electric's MOACT platform now enables users to exchange NORM Points for JPYC, a yen-backed stablecoin, at a 1:1 ratio on the Polygon network. JPYC operates as a fiat-collateralized digital currency, while NORM Points function as a loyalty-style score within the MOACT ecosystem.
The swap mechanism converts non-transferable loyalty points into a liquid, blockchain-based stablecoin pegged to Japanese yen. This arrangement differs from traditional points programs, which typically remain locked within a single platform. By bridging NORM Points to JPYC on Polygon, the partnership creates an on-chain settlement layer and extends utility beyond Kansai Electric's original ecosystem.
The structural implications remain partially unclear—specifically, how JPYC redemptions are funded, whether all converted points must be permanently backed by yen reserves, and whether the 1:1 peg will be maintained across varying redemption volumes. The announcement does not specify lock-in periods, redemption caps, or mechanisms for managing the liability if point holders attempt mass conversions.
