Mastercard and BVNK launched a unified payment platform combining fiat and stablecoin transactions via a single API for businesses.
DeFi & Yields ·
Mastercard and BVNK have launched a unified payment platform enabling businesses to process both fiat and stablecoin transactions through a single API. The integration reflects Mastercard's strategic pivot toward blockchain-based settlement infrastructure, allowing merchants and financial institutions to route payments across multiple networks and currency types without maintaining separate technical integrations.
The platform consolidates access to stablecoin settlement across multiple blockchains—including Ethereum, Solana, Base, Polygon, Arbitrum, and XRPL—alongside traditional fiat rails. This architecture addresses friction inherent in conventional card settlement, which operates in batch windows during business hours and leaves cross-border transactions uncleared on weekends and holidays. By enabling 24/7 programmable settlement via regulated digital dollars like USDC, PYUSD, and RLUSD, the unified API reduces float and counterparty exposure for treasury operations and remittances.
The scope and timeline for rollout across Mastercard's 3.7 billion-card network remain unspecified. Unclear also is whether the platform will be offered exclusively to Mastercard-affiliated issuers or extended more broadly to independent fintechs and payment service providers seeking stablecoin integration.
