PayPal's PYUSD stablecoin launches on Polygon with integrated fiat on/off ramps and compliance infrastructure.

PayPal's PYUSD stablecoin has launched natively on Polygon, with issuance handled by Paxos under OCC supervision. The deployment integrates PYUSD into Polygon's Open Money Stack, allowing businesses to receive funds via cards, bank accounts, or exchange balances, move them across borders, and settle into local currencies through a single infrastructure layer. This consolidation eliminates the need to manage multiple payment providers, reduces engineering overhead, and lowers operational costs compared to traditional correspondent banking systems.
The move targets diverse use cases including international payroll distribution, cross-border marketplace settlements, and remittance flows into emerging markets. Polygon's network has already processed more than $2.6 trillion in stablecoin transactions and counts Revolut and Stripe among its users. Polygon Labs CEO Marc Boiron characterized the integration as bundling compliance directly into the payment rail, shifting operator focus from whether stablecoin payments are viable to what applications they can enable.
The PYUSD deployment follows Polygon Labs' ongoing infrastructure expansion. Earlier in the year, the company agreed to acquire both Coinme and Sequence for over $250 million, securing money-transmitter licenses across 48 US states, a retail network of roughly 50,000 locations, and enterprise-grade compliance tooling. The specifics of how these acquisitions will accelerate stablecoin adoption or shape Polygon's competitive position remain partially undefined.
