Ripple Prime now offers institutional RWA swaps referencing TradeXYZ perpetual futures on Hyperliquid, covering 100+ markets and attracting firms like Virtu as a path to institutional adoption without requiring direct wallet connection.
DeFi & Yields ·
Ripple Prime has launched institutional real-world asset swaps that reference TradeXYZ perpetual futures contracts on Hyperliquid, spanning over 100 markets including equities, ETFs, metals, energy, and FX. Trading firm Virtu is already using the product, signaling early institutional uptake of the arrangement.
The structure allows institutions to gain exposure to onchain derivatives without directly accessing Hyperliquid or operating blockchain wallets. Instead, they work through Ripple Prime, which acts as principal and intermediary, while the underlying contracts settle against perpetuals listed on Hyperliquid. This model preserves existing institutional workflows—collateral arrangements, counterparty relationships, and prime broker infrastructure—rather than requiring firms to overhaul operations for blockchain access.
A key distinction remains unresolved: institutional swap exposure through Ripple Prime need not translate one-to-one into actual trading volume or fees captured by Hyperliquid. The eventual impact depends on how Ripple Prime hedges and manages that exposure internally. The broader implication is that onchain exchanges may gain institutional distribution through existing financial intermediaries rather than acquiring customers directly, a potential shift in how decentralized venues compete for market infrastructure roles.
