Real-world asset perpetual futures trading surged to $2.16 trillion in cumulative volume during Q3, with open interest climbing 79 percent to reach $12.6 billion—a new record. Pyth Network provided price feeds for $2.04 trillion of that volume, underscoring the infrastructure role oracle networks play in the RWA derivatives ecosystem.
The composition of trading shifted markedly across the quarter. Equities dominated overall volume and accounted for 98.3 percent of Pyth's pricing activity in that segment ($1.26 trillion). Commodity perps grew their market share from 19 percent in July to 31 percent by September, with Pyth pricing 91.6 percent of the $458 billion traded. Index derivatives rounded out the volume, with Pyth handling 91.2 percent of $317 billion in that category. Monthly average trading reached $720 billion.
The expansion reflects a year-over-year shift: RWA perpetual contracts operated as a marginal product on crypto exchanges through 2025 but now trade crude oil, precious metals, and equities alongside Bitcoin on a continuous basis. What remains unclear is how sustained this growth will be and whether individual asset classes will continue rebalancing as they have within Q3 alone.
