Tori Finance fills $50M pre-deposit cap for strUSD in a week
DeFi & Yields ·
The Dutch protocol's institutional-style yield token hit its funding ceiling before launch, signaling investor appetite for on-chain versions of traditional arbitrage strategies.
Tori Finance closed a $50 million pre-deposit round for its strUSD product in just 7 days, reaching capacity ahead of the token's official debut, according to ChainCatcher. The product is designed to pay out roughly 12% annualized returns, sourced not from crypto-market trading activity but from delta-neutral arbitrage positions of the kind used by banks and pension funds.
The mechanism works by borrowing in currencies with low interest rates, deploying that capital into higher-yielding markets, and using currency hedges to lock in dollar-denominated gains, a strategy historically reserved for institutions with tens of millions of dollars in capital and access to custody, tax, and compliance infrastructure. Tori's pitch is to compress that barrier into a token: users deposit USDC or USDT to mint a synthetic dollar asset called trUSD, then stake it to receive strUSD, an ERC-20 token compatible with protocols such as Morpho, Pendle, and Curve, and usable as loan collateral to stack additional yield.
To back the yield claims with verification rather than trust alone, Tori says it builds an on-chain balance sheet using zero-knowledge proofs and trusted execution environments, paired with real-time off-chain audits from an independent verification firm. A digital asset investment firm is named as risk manager and anchor liquidity provider, while the protocol's smart contracts have gone through separate audits by Sherlock and Nethermind, with continuous monitoring and a 24-hour delay built into any contract upgrade.
The same details were echoed by Tori Finance's own announcement, which framed strUSD as a yield-bearing stablecoin that reached its $50 million pre-launch cap on the same timeline. A separate account of the launch, via Leviathan News, placed the product within a broader trend of yield-bearing stablecoin issuance drawing institutional-style capital on-chain.
What remains unclear is how the 12% target yield performs once strUSD is live and subject to real market conditions, rather than the pre-launch funding period alone. Also unaddressed in current disclosures is the pace of redemptions, the depth of integration across the named DeFi protocols, and how the promised real-time audit results will be made available to depositors on an ongoing basis.
