Wyoming's FRNT stablecoin adds Chainlink Proof of Reserve
DeFi & Yields ·
The state-issued token becomes the first US public-sector stablecoin to publish verified reserve data onchain.
Wyoming's Stable Token Commission has integrated Chainlink's Proof of Reserve service into FRNT, the state's stablecoin, allowing holders and observers to verify backing reserves directly onchain rather than relying solely on periodic attestations. The move builds on an existing relationship between the commission and Chainlink, which the state is now expanding to cover reserve verification specifically, according to The Block.
The integration follows an earlier technical shift for FRNT, which migrated its cross-chain messaging infrastructure from LayerZero to Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol, or CCIP. That migration appears to have set the groundwork for the deeper partnership now bringing Proof of Reserve onchain, positioning Chainlink as the underlying infrastructure for both interoperability and reserve transparency on the token.
Proof of Reserve works by feeding data on reserve holdings into a verifiable onchain feed, letting smart contracts, exchanges, or individual users check that circulating supply is matched by underlying assets without waiting for a third-party audit report. For a state-backed stablecoin, that mechanism offers a form of continuous verification that traditional attestation schedules do not provide, a distinction that matters given FRNT's status as an instrument issued under a government body rather than a private issuer.
Wyoming selected Chainlink's technology specifically for this reserve-verification function, a decision that multiple accounts describe as part of a broader expansion of the state's relationship with the oracle network rather than a one-off feature addition. The cluster of reporting around the announcement, drawn from four distinct sources, converges on the same basic sequence: the CCIP migration first, then the addition of onchain reserve verification.
What remains unclear from the available reporting is the specific cadence at which reserve data will update, which custodians or asset categories are covered by the feed, and whether other states or public-sector issuers plan similar integrations. Also unaddressed is how this onchain verification will interact with any existing regulatory attestation requirements Wyoming's Stable Token Commission already follows for FRNT.
