CoinMarketCap acquires Coinglass to add derivatives data to price tracking
Ecosystem ·
CoinMarketCap has completed its acquisition of Coinglass, folding the derivatives data platform's open interest, funding rate, liquidation and options tracking into its price-tracking service.
The deal, announced from Hong Kong on 25 September 2026, gives CoinMarketCap's monthly base of 115 million users direct access to derivatives positioning data alongside the prices they already check, according to the announcement. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The deal has also been reported by wublockchain.xyz, which noted CoinMarketCap's ownership under Binance.
Coinglass, founded in 2019, tracks 28 exchanges and more than 2,500 instruments, serving over 5 million monthly users and 10,000 API customers. Its liquidation heatmaps and open-interest and funding-rate dashboards have become widely referenced tools among traders monitoring leveraged positioning. The rationale for the acquisition rests on the fact that derivatives make up the majority of crypto trading volume, meaning spot prices alone leave out where much of the market's risk sits.
CoinMarketCap has said Coinglass will keep operating under its own brand, with its website, app, free tools, API and pricing left unchanged. In a statement, Coinglass said its team will continue building the product independently, with no changes for existing users. CoinMarketCap's Chief Executive Officer, Rush, said the goal is to distribute Coinglass's existing view of market positioning to a larger audience rather than alter it, while Chief Product Officer David Salamon pointed to open interest, funding and liquidations as the areas where market risk is actually taken on.
What remains unclear is how the two products will be technically integrated over time, including whether Coinglass's data will eventually be surfaced directly inside CoinMarketCap's own interface rather than remaining a separately branded service. The absence of disclosed deal terms also leaves the scale of the transaction, and any conditions tied to it, unreported.
