Armed robbery in UK forces crypto holder to transfer digital assets during violent home invasion.
Macro & Markets ·
A crypto-holding trader in Solihull was forced to transfer hundreds of thousands of pounds in digital assets after armed robbers invaded his home on December 13, 2025, threatening his pregnant wife and unborn child. During the 45-minute ordeal, masked men assaulted the husband, placed a pillow over his wife's face, and threatened to stab her and kill the baby unless cryptocurrency was transferred. Police believe the attack was planned and targeted; a fourth offender relayed instructions via video call while the robbers were inside the property.
The husband, an amateur crypto investor who quit his job in 2023 to trade full time, complied and emptied his accounts. The attackers also stole several watches before fleeing in a black BMW X3. West Midlands Police is investigating, and Crimestoppers has offered a £10,000 reward for information leading to arrests. All four offenders are thought to be in their twenties.
The incident underscores rising risks of physical crypto theft targeting holders known or suspected to hold significant digital assets. What remains unclear is whether the attackers had prior intelligence about the target's holdings or whether such raids represent a broader pattern in the UK, and whether law enforcement has established connections to organized crime networks specializing in crypto-focused home invasions.
