Large wallet holders have continued purchasing Bitcoin despite recent price weakness, with 40 newly created addresses withdrawing over $770 million in BTC since October 1 through Wintermute. The accumulation represents a resumption of buying activity after an extended selling period, with reports indicating whales acquired nearly 89,000 BTC in a single month and now hold combined balances exceeding three million BTC—the highest total since late November 2025.
The timing of this whale activity followed Bitcoin's recovery from under $62,000 in August to $87,000 in September. However, the asset has since faced repeated rejection at that resistance level and has declined, dipping below $82,000 after briefly recovering to $85,000 earlier in the week amid deteriorating macroeconomic conditions.
The sustained buying by large holders contrasts with the asset's struggling price action, raising questions about whether whale accumulation will eventually provide support or whether macro headwinds will continue to pressure the broader market. The significance of this activity for near-term price direction remains uncertain.
