BitMine grows ETH stash to 5.82 million tokens, nears 5% of supply
Macro & Markets ·
The company's latest weekly purchase pushes its ether treasury further toward a meaningful share of the network's total token base.
BitMine reported adding 9,926 ETH over a one-week span, lifting its cumulative position to 5,815,164 ETH, according to wublockchain.xyz. That stake now represents roughly 4.8% of all ether in circulation, a threshold that places the firm among the more concentrated corporate holders of the asset.
Of that total, about 87%, or 5,067,309 ETH, is currently staked, generating an estimated $250 million in annualized staking income, per the same report. The scale of the staked position underscores how BitMine's treasury strategy is increasingly tied to yield generation rather than passive custody alone.
Alongside the ether accumulation, BitMine repurchased 1.7 million of its own shares during the same week, pushing total buybacks since July past 20.8 million shares. The parallel moves — expanding crypto holdings while shrinking share count — point to a treasury approach that pairs digital-asset accumulation with capital return to shareholders.
As of August 16, the company's combined crypto, cash, marketable securities and other investments totaled $11.4 billion, a figure confirmed in BitMine's own release. That balance sheet size reflects both the recent ETH purchases and the ongoing share repurchases funded from existing liquidity.
Three separate sources have corroborated the week's figures, including the ETH total, staking ratio and buyback tally, though none detail how future accumulation or repurchase pace might shift if ether's price or staking yields move. Also unclear is how close to, or how BitMine intends to approach, higher concentration thresholds of Ethereum's total supply going forward.
