Macro & Markets ·
Aggregate spot trading volume fell to $429.0 billion in July 2026, representing a 21.7% contraction from the prior month's $547.9 billion. All 14 major exchanges tracked in the report posted declines, with Binance capturing the largest share at $196.5 billion or 45.8% of total activity. OKX and Bybit placed second and third with $41.6 billion and $36.3 billion respectively, their combined volumes alongside Binance representing nearly two-thirds of the market.
Losses were unevenly distributed across venues. Decentralized exchange Uniswap posted the mildest retreat at 9.8% month-over-month, with Kraken and Gate following at 13.4% and 15.9%. By contrast, Bitfinex experienced a 59.7% plunge, the steepest among the cohort, while Coinbase and Bybit fell 26.4% and 24.5% respectively.
The broad-based pullback across all measured venues suggests systemic pressure on spot trading demand rather than exchange-specific friction. Whether the July decline signals seasonal patterns, macro headwinds, or shifts in trading behavior toward derivatives and other instruments remains unclear from the data alone.
