CryptoQuant founder predicts Bitcoin bull cycle will deliver 3–5x returns rather than 10x+, citing institutional ownership and market maturity as structural dampeners on volatility.

CryptoQuant's CEO expects Bitcoin to achieve 3–5x growth in the current bull cycle rather than the 10x or larger rallies seen in prior market expansions. The shift reflects structural changes in how Bitcoin functions as an asset: the market has grown substantially larger and institutional ownership has expanded, both of which dampen extreme price movements in either direction. Retail dominance and "hot money" once fueled parabolic runs followed by steep crashes, but these dynamics have given way to steadier conditions that preserve capital at both cycle tops and bottoms.
Several on-chain signals support this more measured outlook. The PnL Index—which measures aggregate holder profitability—is forming lower cycle tops and higher cycle bottoms, indicating less extreme swings. In the current cycle, the MVRV ratio never fell below 1, meaning holders as a whole remained profitable even at local lows. Separately, realized cap growth points to sustained fresh capital, while whale positioning data shows major long-holders adding exposure near recent bottoms and avoiding large sales.
What remains unclear is whether this structural moderation will hold as Bitcoin scales further or if external conditions could still trigger volatility spikes. The CEO frames the trade-off plainly: accepting smaller upside in exchange for gentler downside creates conditions that may finally attract patient, long-term capital rather than speculative flows.
