Ethereum up 9% in September with whale activity surging 500%, facing resistance at $2,722–$2,822 while spot ETH ETFs draw $690M in weekly inflows.

Ethereum has gained more than 9% since the start of September, reversing the asset's typical monthly weakness. Whale transactions worth over $1 million surged nearly 500% in the past week, climbing from 1,202 to 7,113 transactions, while large holders accumulated more than 320,000 ETH. US-based spot ETH ETFs recorded nearly $690 million in inflows across five trading days, with Monday seeing the strongest entry at almost $270 million.
The asset faces a significant resistance zone between $2,722 and $2,822, where over 13.3 million ETH were previously traded. A breakthrough above this level could open path to resistance near $2,970 and $3,366. Supply-side dynamics support potential upside: only 3.49% of ETH sits on tracked exchanges, the lowest on record, while roughly 35% of the asset is staked and approximately $53 billion is locked in DeFi protocols, limiting available supply if demand accelerates.
What remains uncertain is whether whale accumulation and institutional inflows prove sufficient to break the $2,722–$2,822 barrier decisively, or whether several failed attempts occur first. The durability of supply constraints and their actual effect on price discovery under increased demand also remain to be demonstrated.
