Foreign holdings of US Treasuries reached $9.37 trillion in May, a $18 billion increase and the second-highest level on record. Japan, the largest foreign holder, reduced its Treasury position by $67 billion to $1.14 trillion, while China increased holdings by $8 billion to $659 billion, the highest since February. The UK, the second-largest holder, added $11 billion to reach a record $949 billion, and the seven largest financial centers collectively held $3.24 trillion, an all-time high. Over the past 12 months, total foreign Treasury holdings have grown by $549 billion.
