Grayscale research shows Bitcoin's correlation with gold has risen above 50% while Nasdaq correlation fell to 33%, signaling a shift toward Bitcoin as a store-of-value play amid U.S. fiscal concerns.

Bitcoin's correlation with gold has climbed above 50% over the past 90 days, while its relationship with the Nasdaq 100 has weakened to roughly 33% from over 60%, according to analysis from Grayscale Head of Research Zach Pandl. The shift suggests investors are reassessing Bitcoin's role in portfolios, emphasizing its scarcity and monetary independence rather than its tech-sector dynamics.
Pandl attributed the rebalancing to macroeconomic conditions. With U.S. federal debt exceeding $40 trillion and fiscal deficits persisting, the "debasement trade"—the investment thesis that currency depreciation will drive demand for hard assets—has returned to market attention. Bitcoin and other scarce digital assets, Pandl suggested, may now occupy a more favorable position as inflation hedges and stores of value.
The data captures a correlation snapshot but does not indicate whether this pattern will sustain or what catalysts might reverse it. The gap between Bitcoin and Nasdaq correlation remains wide, yet whether this signals a lasting structural shift in market positioning or a cyclical rotation remains an open question.
