Japanese corporate treasury demand for BTC and XRP is rising due to yen weakness, with SBI VC Trade crossing 2M registered accounts and SBI Holdings investing $76M in EDX Markets.

Japanese corporate interest in Bitcoin and XRP holdings is climbing as firms respond to yen depreciation by adding crypto to their treasuries, according to SBI VC Trade. The exchange's registered account base crossed 2 million as of July 6, 2026, doubling from over 1 million the prior year after its April 2026 merger with Bitpoint Japan. Growth has been fueled by expansion of investment products and a specialized corporate offering called "SBIVC for Prime," which has seen rising adoption among Japanese companies incorporating digital assets into reserves and shareholder benefit programs.
SBI Holdings, the parent entity, is extending its crypto sector footprint beyond domestic retail services. The group led a $76 million Series C round for US-based institutional trading platform EDX Markets, which operates a segregated model for trading, custody, and settlement. The capital will support EDX's international expansion and product development for institution-only trading.
The momentum also reflects stablecoin infrastructure build-out in Japan. SBI VC Trade became the first domestic exchange to support USDC in March 2025 and added the yen-backed JPYSC and Ripple's RLUSD in June 2026. Whether this corporate treasury pivot reflects sustained hedging appetite or temporary yen-weakness positioning remains unclear.
