MicroStrategy extends its Bitcoin purchase pause while maintaining its $65.6B BTC position, which has turned profitable after recent price recovery.

The world's largest corporate holder of bitcoin has now paused acquisitions for another consecutive week, though it has refrained from reducing its existing holdings. According to an announcement, the firm bolstered its liquid position by increasing its primary USD reserve to $5.1 billion and creating a separate USD Cash reserve of $1.59 billion. It also deployed $136 million toward repurchasing its own equity, which continues to approach a $100 par level.
The company's restrained approach to bitcoin acquisition comes shortly after a notable price recovery in the asset. Bitcoin surged from below $65,000 to over $78,000 as of late August, shifting the company's portfolio stance considerably. With an acquisition cost basis near $75,400 across approximately $63.3 billion in total spending, the firm's roughly $65.6 billion position has moved from underwater—it faced an unrealized loss exceeding $10 billion just months earlier—into profitable territory for the first time in recent months.
The extended pause began after the firm's last bitcoin sale on August 10, when it disposed of 1,690 units. What remains uncertain is whether the weekly deferral represents a temporary tactical holding pattern or signals a longer-term shift in acquisition strategy, particularly given the company maintains no net leverage and holds approximately 4 percent of total bitcoin supply.
