MicroStrategy pauses Bitcoin purchases to focus on $2B stock buyback program, currently holding 845,050 BTC with $2B unrealized gains.

The largest corporate holder of Bitcoin has paused new cryptocurrency acquisitions to prioritize share repurchases. The firm repurchased $176 million of its own stock and expanded its Digital Credit Securities Repurchase Program to $2 billion, according to an announcement by its former chief executive. The company currently holds 845,050 BTC alongside $6.5 billion in USD assets.
The position has generated substantial unrealized gains. With an average acquisition price of $75,412 per bitcoin, the holdings carry over $2 billion in paper profits at current levels. This marks a recovery in the company's overall position, which has benefited from its stock buyback initiative—the shares have climbed to near $98 after earlier dropping to $75.
The shift toward capital allocation through buybacks rather than additional bitcoin purchases reflects a tactical recalibration, though prior acquisitions above $80,000 per unit had drawn scrutiny from market observers given the company's earlier sales near $62,000. The sustainability of this buyback strategy and its effect on future bitcoin accumulation patterns remain to be seen.
