Solana-focused treasury firm DeFi Development holds 2.59M SOL but its weekly purchase pace is slowing despite CHAD preferred stock hitting record highs.

DeFi Development Corp, a Nasdaq-listed Solana treasury firm, acquired roughly 22,070 SOL last week, bringing its total holdings to approximately 2.59 million tokens—a 12% increase since mid-August. Simultaneously, the company's CHAD perpetual preferred stock, which distributes a 13% annual dividend, reached record valuations in the week ending October 9 and is nearing its $10 par value after an initial public offering priced at $8 per share.
The pace of weekly SOL accumulation has declined markedly. Purchases fell from 101,381 tokens in mid-September to roughly 47,706 the following week, then further to 26,202 last week. DeFi Development funds these acquisitions through a $300 million at-the-market offering that issues new CHAD shares, meaning higher CHAD valuations directly boost the company's purchasing power per share issued. Chief Strategy Officer Dan Kang characterized the preferred stock's gains as validation of its income proposition, though the company cautioned that staking yields may prove insufficient to sustain dividend payments.
The firm's common stock trades at a significant discount to its crypto holdings. DFDV common shares valued the company at approximately $144 million against roughly $287 million in SOL assets. Whether this discount reflects market skepticism about the business model or temporary volatility remains unclear, as does the sustainability of both dividend commitments and the acquisition trajectory if SOL volatility persists.
