US tech stocks including Nasdaq 100, semiconductors, and S&P 500 software index all fell >2% on the same day, marking extreme volatility unseen since 2008.
Macro & Markets ·
US tech stocks including the Nasdaq 100, Semiconductor Index, and S&P 500 Software Index each declined at least 2.0% on the same day, representing only the second trading session in 2026 with synchronized declines of that magnitude across all three measures. The Semiconductor Index is now in its 4th correction within a 135-calendar-day window, the highest frequency for such a period since 2002. By historical comparison, 2026 has seen two such coordinated down days year-to-date, compared with 4, 5, and 14 days across 2023, 2024, and 2025 respectively, and markedly fewer than the 34, 48, and 37 sessions recorded during the 2022 bear market, the 2000 dot-com collapse, and the 2008 financial crisis.
