Crypto's Fairshake PAC commits $30 million to oppose Senator Sherrod Brown in Ohio election race.
Regulation & Gov ·
Crypto super PAC Fairshake has committed $30 million to oppose Senator Sherrod Brown in his Ohio race against incumbent Republican Jon Husted, according to Decrypt. The announcement came days after the Senate rejected the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, which would have created federal rules for crypto markets and distributed regulatory authority between the SEC and CFTC. The bill failed on a 49-50 cloture vote, falling short of the 60 votes required to advance.
This represents a second electoral campaign by Fairshake targeting Brown. During 2024, the group deployed roughly $40 million in support of Republican Bernie Moreno's successful challenge to Brown's Senate seat. Brown's opposition to cryptocurrency and his former role leading the Senate Banking Committee made him a priority target for the industry-backed organization. The group's latest spending announcement underscores the sector's frustration following the legislative setback, with all Democrats present and three Republicans voting against moving forward on the measure.
Fairshake, backed primarily by Coinbase, Ripple, and Andreessen Horowitz, maintains it supports candidates across both parties who back crypto-friendly positions. The group reported $108 million remaining at the end of August and had accumulated $116 million in fundraising by January 2025 for the 2026 election cycle. Whether the $30 million expenditure will materially influence the Ohio outcome or shift broader legislative momentum around crypto regulation remains uncertain.
