EIP-8363 staking reward burn proposal withdrawn from Hegota upgrade; Ethereum Foundation will pursue separate community process through EthCC.
Regulation & Gov ·
A proposal to burn Ethereum staking rewards, designated as EIP-8363, has been withdrawn from inclusion in the Hegota upgrade. Jérôme de Tychey, co-author of the proposal and Ethereum France president, determined that feedback from the sector indicated the issuance modification requires a dedicated review process rather than bundling with the scheduled upgrade.
The Ethereum Foundation intends to pursue the proposal through a separate community-driven effort, with forums and workshops planned during EthCC in April. This decision reflects a shift toward allowing broader stakeholder input and deliberation before advancing a change affecting staking economics.
The rationale for removal and the timeline for the alternative process remain grounded in de Tychey's assessment of industry concerns. Whether EIP-8363 will eventually be adopted, modified, or abandoned through this extended consultation process is not yet determined.
