Galaxy Research reports conditional markets governing $50.5M across 22 DAOs as a new governance mechanism gaining traction.

Decision markets, a governance mechanism where trading outcomes determine whether proposals are adopted, now direct approximately $50.5 million across 22 decentralized autonomous organizations. Galaxy Research describes these arrangements as part of a broader category termed "conditional markets," which allow participants to trade real assets and their prices rather than synthetic probability-based contracts. Unlike traditional prediction markets, conditional markets transcend binary outcomes and emit future events' impacts on asset values as informational byproducts.
The mechanism functions by having proposal drafters solicit community feedback, craft proposals, and launch markets where traders effectively bet on adoption. If the market price moves beyond a threshold from spot, binding outcomes trigger—for instance, a management team adds a protocol feature. The design space has expanded meaningfully beyond its initial concentration on Solana through MetaDAO, with projects like Umia launching on EVM-compatible chains in September to broaden applicability across multiple blockchain ecosystems.
What remains unclear is the breakdown of governance capital across individual DAOs, the maturity of these implementations, and whether the $50.5 million figure reflects active trading volume, total value locked, or cumulative capital deployed across all decision markets globally.
