Swiss Bitcoin financial services provider Pocket Bitcoin disclosed a data breach occurring in August that compromised personal and financial information. The incident affected 5,120 customers whose exposed data included names, addresses, bank transfer amounts, transaction dates, and in some cases international bank account numbers. An additional 291 customers experienced exposure of more sensitive records, potentially encompassing identity documents, source-of-funds materials, Bitcoin addresses, and home addresses, according to Pocket Bitcoin's disclosure.
The breach originated from a support system storing bank correspondence and transaction records, while the company's core customer and transaction databases remained uncompromised. Pocket Bitcoin confirmed that customer Bitcoin holdings and private keys were not affected by the incident. At present, no evidence indicates that the compromised information has been actively exploited or misused.
The company notified data protection authorities in Switzerland and Liechtenstein of the incident and filed reports with local law enforcement. The timeline of discovery, scope of ongoing investigation, and specific remediation steps beyond notification remain unclear from available disclosures.
