Railgun privacy mixer defaulted on a US lawsuit alleging it facilitated North Korean crypto theft laundering, opening it to default judgment.
Regulation & Gov ·
A US lawsuit filed in January 2026 alleges that Railgun DAO, a privacy mixer, facilitated the laundering of cryptocurrency stolen by North Korea. The complaint, brought by multiple plaintiffs, names Railgun DAO as a defendant but the case faces procedural hurdles with service of process.
The plaintiffs have encountered difficulty locating a physical address for Railgun DAO to formally serve the defendant, prompting them to seek alternative service methods. In late January, they filed a motion for alternative service, to which a federal judge responded by ordering the plaintiffs to provide additional documentation by mid-February 2026 detailing their investigative efforts to locate either Railgun DAO's address or the addresses of the individuals identified as Railgun founders, as well as any non-social-media contact methods attempted.
The case remains in its early procedural phase, with no default judgment yet entered. The extent of Railgun DAO's awareness of the lawsuit and whether it intends to contest the allegations remain unclear, as does the nature of the underlying theft allegations and the evidence linking the mixer to North Korean actors.
