Russia's largest bank Sberbank receives regulatory approval to trade cryptocurrency.
Regulation & Gov ·
Sberbank has been added to Russia's cryptocurrency exchange register, enabling the country's largest bank to offer crypto trading and custody services to its clients starting December 1. The bank is already testing trades in BTC, ETH, and USDT through its app, though the central bank will determine the final list of permitted assets. The approval comes alongside new restrictions: domestic crypto payments remain banned, and from July 2027, all crypto transactions must route through registered intermediaries, effectively prohibiting peer-to-peer settlements through Russian bank accounts.
