Sen. Richard Blumenthal is demanding that Tether provide records detailing its payments to Nxum, a consulting firm co-owned by Bo Hines, who previously served as a White House crypto policy adviser, with a response deadline of Nov. 3. According to reporting, Nxum received $6.3 million from a Tether arrangement initiated in May 2025, with funds flowing to the firm even while Hines maintained a one-third ownership stake and helped develop the GENIUS Act legislation. Blumenthal contends the payment arrangement suggests potential violations of federal ethics, anticorruption, and lobbying statutes, though Nxum representatives stated Hines was uninvolved in the deal while in government and received no Tether-derived funds during that period. Tether said external counsel found no wrongdoing following an internal investigation.
