Singapore's IRAS introduces mandatory crypto-asset provider surveillance framework with auto-reporting to tax authorities and jurisdictional data exchange starting 2027โ2028.
Regulation & Gov ยท
Singapore's tax authority has introduced a framework requiring crypto-asset service providers to collect and report user transaction data, with enforcement beginning in 2027 and 2028. The framework mandates that exchanges track all user activity including crypto-to-fiat conversions, crypto-to-crypto trades, retail payments exceeding USD 50,000, and withdrawals to self-custody or unknown wallets starting in 2027.
From 2028 onward, collected data will flow automatically to the tax authority and be exchanged with users' home tax jurisdictions. This means trading volumes and offramp activity will become visible to tax authorities in the jurisdiction where a user resides, creating a direct link between exchange activity and tax compliance scrutiny.
The mechanism represents a shift toward real-time regulatory transparency in the region's crypto markets. It remains unclear how service providers will distinguish between retail and institutional users for reporting thresholds, or what compliance costs the framework will impose on smaller exchanges operating in Singapore.
