Tradecraft achieves first SEC Innovation Exemption approval to tokenize and trade U.S. stocks on-chain.
Regulation & Gov ·
TSV LLC, operating the Tradecraft automated market maker on the Canton Network, facilitated the inaugural trades of a tokenized U.S. stock under the SEC's Innovation Exemption framework. On November 4, 2026, DRW Cumberland purchased tokenized shares of Canton Strategic Holdings (NASDAQ: CNTN) from Five North, with Fairmint TA LLC—an SEC-registered transfer agent—recording ownership on the Loop Wallet and Flowdesk Liquidity Solutions supplying liquidity for the transaction. TSV's notification to the SEC on September 23 marked the first formal venue notice under the new exemption.
The Innovation Exemption, issued by the SEC on September 17, permits qualifying platforms to trade tokenized stocks through permissioned AMM pools. Canton Strategic Holdings' decision to sponsor its own tokenization bypassed the 30-day issuer notice-and-objection process, since the company initiated the listing directly. Tokenized holders receive identical rights to those holding CNTN shares on Nasdaq, including the ability to trade around the clock on the Canton Network with settlement occurring onchain. The broader tokenized equities asset class has expanded from roughly $678 million in early 2026 to $3.15 billion by September.
The framework and execution mechanics remain novel; questions persist about adoption velocity among public companies, regulatory clarifications for secondary venues, and how issuer-sponsored tokenization scales across different market conditions and issuer types.
