S&P DJI, Kaiko, and Derivnex complete first on-chain OTC swap using a tokenized iBoxx bond index.
RWA & Tokenization ·
S&P DJI, Kaiko, and Derivnex completed the first on-chain OTC swap referencing a tokenized iBoxx index, according to a statement from S&P Global. The transaction represented a milestone in moving large bilateral bond-linked derivatives onto distributed ledger infrastructure, with the swap executed by DRW and Marex on the Derivnex platform.
The mechanics of the trade followed standard OTC protocols adapted for on-chain settlement. Rather than clearing through traditional custodians or exchange infrastructure, both counterparties negotiated terms privately and settled the derivative contract atomically on-chain, referencing the tokenized version of the iBoxx benchmark. This approach combines the privacy and custom terms typical of bilateral OTC trading with the settlement finality and transparency of blockchain execution.
The significance of this transaction remains to be fully assessed. It marks one step toward integrating traditional financial indices and structured products into on-chain markets, though broader institutional adoption of such mechanisms, regulatory frameworks governing their use, and the scale at which they might operate remain unsettled questions.
