World Liberty Financial launched USD1 stablecoin on Canton Network to accelerate RWA tokenization.
RWA & Tokenization ·
World Liberty Financial made USD1, a stablecoin issued by BitGo Bank & Trust, National Association, available on Canton Network, a privacy-enabled blockchain designed for regulated financial institutions. The move enables USD1 to function as a settlement option for institutions tokenizing real-world assets on the network, offering atomic settlement alongside collateral transactions, cross-border payments, and onchain asset issuance. Canton currently processes over $350 billion in onchain U.S. Treasurys daily, with more than $9 trillion in tokenized assets issued or moved monthly.
The deployment addresses a structural gap in onchain markets: while trillions in government debt and securities have migrated to blockchain rails, dollar settlement has remained anchored to legacy infrastructure, creating liquidity friction and timing mismatches. USD1 settles synchronously with the asset transactions it funds, eliminating the capital tie-up that arises when the cash leg lags behind the security. Canton's architecture allows each application to define its own privacy and governance while maintaining interoperability, with only transaction participants seeing and validating their portions.
USD1 has circulated $4 billion since its March 2025 launch and maintains 100% backing through short-term U.S. Treasurys, government money market funds, dollar deposits, and cash equivalents. BitGo manages reserve assets and handles all mints and redemptions across networks. Whether USD1's integration will materially shift settlement velocity or adoption patterns among institutional market participants remains to be demonstrated in live market conditions.
