Binance hackers shift over $1 billion in ETH to new wallets

Funds tied to the reported $5.8 billion Binance exploit are being moved ahead of possible mixer laundering.
The group behind the reported $5.8 billion Binance exploit has moved more than $1 billion in ETH into a new set of wallets, according to a post from OnchainLens. The movement is seen as likely preparation for laundering the funds through Tornado Cash and other mixing services. Several addresses tied to the transfer have been published for tracking, though it is not yet clear how much of the $1 billion has reached mixers or remains in transit.
The transfer comes amid broader efforts to trace and attribute the exploit. TRM and Chainalysis have tied a $6.4 billion version of the Binance hack to North Korea's TraderTraitor group, the same team linked to the earlier Bybit breach. Binance has reportedly set aside $6.34 billion to cover user losses stemming from the incident, though the exact scale of the breach continues to vary across reports, ranging from $5.8 billion to $6.4 billion depending on the source.
Tracking firms have also diverged somewhat on the size of funds under watch. Arkham Intelligence is monitoring 5.7 billion in funds tied to the hacker entity, while a separate account puts the figure at $5.88 billion held across hacker-linked addresses, with $2.54 billion of that already confirmed frozen by the exchange, according to wublockchain.xyz. The discrepancies suggest the full scope of affected funds, and how much has been secured versus moved, is still being reconciled across different monitoring platforms.
What remains unresolved is whether the $1 billion in ETH now in transit will successfully reach Tornado Cash or other mixers, and whether exchanges or compliance tools can intercept or flag the funds before they are obscured. It is also unclear how the newly moved funds relate to the $2.54 billion already frozen, or whether additional portions of the broader $5.8โ6.4 billion total will be subject to similar movement in the coming days.
