Binance reportedly experienced a $5.8B cryptocurrency exploit, with Tether and the Arbitrum Security Council freezing over $3B in assets. The compromised funds have been actively moving through decentralized exchanges as the attacker converts stolen tokens to other assets.
In the 24 hours following the breach, the hacker conducted substantial token swaps across multiple venues. Uniswap absorbed $819.92M across more than 1,600 transactions, while SUN io processed $444.92M across 32 transactions. The pattern indicates ongoing liquidation efforts as the attacker continues selling tokens recovered from the initial compromise.
It remains unclear whether the $5.8B figure represents the total stolen amount or includes the $3B in frozen assets, and whether the frozen funds will be permanently immobilized or recoverable. The attacker's final destination for proceeds and the full scope of affected user accounts have not been confirmed.
