Symbiosis Bridge recovered 15 BTC following a Bitcoin bridge exploit that minted 46.1B syBTC; project offers attacker 20% bounty.
Security & Exploits ·
Symbiosis Bridge has recovered 15 BTC following an exploit of its Bitcoin bridge and is offering the attacker a 20% bounty as an incentive to return the remaining funds. The incident resulted in the minting of roughly 46.1 billion syBTC, though the attacker realized only approximately $336,000 in proceeds according to blockchain security firm Blockaid.
The exploit exposed a vulnerability in the bridge's mechanics that allowed unauthorized token minting. The recovery of 15 BTC represents a partial restoration of assets, while the vast majority of the minted syBTC—representing the bulk of the exploit's surface—remains unresolved. The bounty offer signals an attempt to negotiate the attacker's voluntary return of stolen funds rather than pursue purely technical or legal remedies.
What remains unclear is whether the attacker will respond to the bounty proposal, how the remaining syBTC will be addressed or burned, and what systemic changes Symbiosis plans to implement to prevent similar exploits in the future.
