ZachXBT identifies French bank Crédit Mutuel Arkéa as the source of a $133M crypto theft involving laundered USDC and USDT withdrawals from centralized exchanges.
Security & Exploits ·
Blockchain investigator ZachXBT has attributed a theft exceeding $133 million to French bank Crédit Mutuel Arkéa, with stolen USDC and USDT withdrawn from multiple centralized exchanges over a 21-hour period in early November. As of mid-November, approximately $61 million in illicit funds remained on Ethereum, while Tether had frozen $1.14 million in USDT and Circle had not yet frozen $2.53 million in USDC tied to the incident. The actual theft amount may be higher once over-the-counter activity is factored in, and the identity of the attacker remains unknown, though available evidence points away from the Lazarus Group.
