Aptos deploys protocol-native encrypted mempool on mainnet with ~20ms latency increase per block.
Tech & Launches ·
Aptos has deployed a protocol-native encrypted mempool on its mainnet, introducing approximately 20 milliseconds of additional latency per block. The encrypted mempool is a privacy-preserving feature designed to protect transaction ordering and content visibility during the mempool phase, before transactions are finalized on the chain.
This upgrade builds on Aptos's existing technical foundation, which combines the Move programming language, parallel execution via Block-STM, and formal verification to support high-throughput transaction processing. The addition of an encrypted mempool represents a step toward integrating privacy mechanisms directly into the protocol layer rather than relying solely on application-level solutions.
The 20ms latency tradeoff and long-term adoption dynamics—including how validators and applications respond to the privacy guarantees offered—remain to be observed as the feature operates on mainnet. No announcements regarding specific use cases or ecosystem response have been provided at this stage.
