Base has activated the B20 standard, a token specification designed for stablecoins and real-world assets, according to documentation. The standard went live on Base mainnet on July 9 at 2:00 AM Beijing time, enabling developers to deploy B20 tokens immediately upon activation.
The B20 standard establishes a common framework for issuing asset-backed tokens on Base. Unlike earlier token standards on the chain, B20 targets use cases centered on stablecoins and tokenized real-world assets, reflecting growing demand for blockchain-native representations of fiat currencies and physical or financial assets.
It remains unclear how quickly developers will adopt the standard, which projects will be among the first to issue B20 tokens, or what distinguishes B20 from existing token standards on other chains. Market adoption metrics and comparative performance data are not yet available.
