Blur sets November shutdown date for frontend as BLUR token drops 16.5%
Tech & Launches ·
The NFT marketplace will retire its user interface on November 12, 2026, and its Blend lending arm will cease arranging new loans the same day, a move that sent the token tumbling.
Blur confirmed that November 12, 2026 marks the end of its frontend, according to the announcement detailed by WuBlockchain. The underlying onchain marketplace protocol, however, is set to keep running, and BLUR holders will retain governance over the fee switch mechanism. Blend, the platform's NFT-backed lending system, will simultaneously stop pairing new borrowers with lenders, meaning anyone with an open position must settle their debt by that date or risk having it default.
Once the cutoff passes, Blur intends to roll out a separate withdrawal interface so users can pull their holdings out of Blend after the fact. The closure does not appear to affect the protocol layer itself, only the consumer-facing access point, leaving the fee-generating mechanics intact even as the trading interface disappears.
Markets reacted sharply. BLUR fell to a session low of 0.01410 USDT before paring losses to 0.01523 USDT, a 16.55% decline over 24 hours based on Binance pricing. The Block's coverage tied the shutdown to a broader slide in the marketplace's trading volume, framing the frontend closure as a response to shrinking activity rather than an isolated technical decision.
The announcement has been corroborated across multiple outlets, including a breakdown from DeFiPrime and Blur's own statement posted to its official account. Blur had raised $11 million in a seed round back in March 2022, with backers including Paradigm, eGirl Capital, and 0xMaki, underscoring the scale of early institutional interest in a project now winding down its public interface.
What remains unclear is the long-term plan for the marketplace protocol itself once the frontend goes dark, how many outstanding Blend loans will face default rather than repayment by the deadline, and whether the promised withdrawal tool will be available immediately after November 12 or on a delay.
